Ken Cook is Senior Meteorologist at YOUR FORECAST NOW. Mr. Cook spent 35 years as Chief Meteorologist for WAGA-TV/FOX5 in Atlanta. During those years, he prepared or presented weather forecasts, and warnings as necessary, five days a week, during the 5PM, 6PM, 10PM, and 11PM Newscasts.
Mr. Cook is a graduate of The University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Meteorology. He has worked in Atlanta for more than 40 years forecasting the weather. For six of those years, he worked with the National Weather Service (NWS) preparing public forecasts and warnings of severe weather, aviation forecasts, fire weather forecasts, and more. He also served as the Atlanta NWS’ Disaster Preparedness Meteorologist working with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, the Governor’s Office, Georgia and local school systems, and as liaison with the Atlanta area news media.
He has received numerous public service and professional awards during his tenure, including the AP’s “Best Weather Cast Award", Atlanta Magazine’s “Best Weather Forecaster—Peoples’ Choice Award", Atlanta NATAS’ “Silver Circle Award", State of Georgia “Governor’s Commendation”, The City of Atlanta’s “Phoenix Award”, and the National Weather Service’s “Outstanding Performance Award".
According to Mr. Cook, “After 40+ years, I understand the vagaries and nuances of Atlanta’s weather very well. The NWS and computer forecasts are pretty good, if you don’t have money and time on the line.” This is why he has joined with Mr. Rubin at YOUR FORECAST NOW to give production and movie companies in the Atlanta Metro Area that extra edge that they need when it comes to the weather, when tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars or more are on the line during a single day’s “shoot”.
Gene Rubin is the Founder and Chief Meteorologist of YOUR FORECAST NOW. With a love of weather that began at the age of 7, Mr. Rubin has 39 years of successful experience in weather forecasting and related meteorological endeavors, 34 of those in the Atlanta area alone. He knows Atlanta weather!
Prior to launching YOUR FORECAST NOW, Mr. Rubin held a senior sales position for 18 years at Weather Services International Corporation, the professional division of The Weather Company, where he was an award winning regional sales manager. There, Mr. Rubin sold and marketed integrated weather and traffic systems including social media, digital and cloud based products to the television broadcasting industry. He also held a national sales manager position for 6 years at Enterprise Electronics Corporation selling Doppler weather radar systems to the same broadcast industry.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Rubin was an original member of The Weather Channel’s first on-air team as well as on-air meteorologist for WAGA-TV in Atlanta and KSTP-TV in Minneapolis. Mr. Rubin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University and completed his Master of Science in Meteorology curriculum at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. When he’s not forecasting what’s going on in the atmosphere, he’s been up there enjoying it himself -- skydiving, mountain base-jumping, and co-piloting hot air balloons.
